I say we because Wes is the best caddy and would be behind the lens himself if we had another camera

When we moved across the country a year and a half ago, James and Rebecca were the first friends we made! Rebecca was pregnant with Anna and they took us to Costco for hotdogs and then on a driving tour of Seattle.

On Saturday they called and were interested in some photos, so here they are!

time! Here are our friends Mike and Lissa and their three kids. It was fun to see how the kids were able to handle the 45 minutes of photographs. Everything started out wonderfully but it was clear when the picture taking should be over. There was only so much standing still and smiling that a couple of little ones could handle. Enjoy some shots we took on Saturday!

We are so thankful for our friends Kent and Kirsten and their family who generously invited us to share the day with them on Thursday! It was so delicious! Wes had a piece of all four homemade pies! Kent, Kirsten, and I won the prizes for the Thanksgiving trivia games (see hats below).

I am learning so much these days about my camera and its workings! Every time that I shoot portraits of friends I have more and more questions about getting the perfect shots. I thought that I would share with you some of the things that I learned this weekend after I shot our friends Marciel, Grace, and Maddie (shooting friends doesn’t sound very nice…).

1. Don’t shoot into the sun unless I have a fill flash or reflector!

2. I would like a lens hood.

3. If I want the sky/water/light background and the subject exposed I need a separate flash for my subjects.

4. Everything reflects light differently.

5. Don’t rush (at least not for me at the moment)! I’ve been adjusting my meter and then click. I need to slow down, make sure I have the right focus point selected, place it on the subjects eyes, press lightly, when camera is ready, click.

6. Remind subjects to sit up, shoulders back, bellies in.

7. A tripod does wonderful things in low light.

Hopefully by writing these things down, I won’t forget them!

portraits!

We have so many friends out here that have such sweet families, I will be taking portraits for many of them! They are all getting ready for Christmas card designing.

Here are Jeremy, Joy, and Lynnea! The sun went to bed early and the dark crept up on us, so all of their photos were taken with not so great lighting. This made it tough to get the right shot, but a bunch turned out! Enjoy!

On a side note- Wes and I are doing aight. Been getting over lingering colds (three month long ones…) We’ve been hiding inside our house mostly so we can heal up and then get back to normal life. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving (we’ve been invited to dine with a fabulous cook!) and Christmas (please be snow!).
